Sometimes it’s very hard for young people to talk to parents or friends about things that are worrying them. Counselling offers them an opportunity to talk things through in a safe and confidential setting.
I have worked with young people for many years as a school counsellor, teacher and social worker. My experience covers a wide range of issues with young people from all kinds of backgrounds and circumstances. I have Basic Disclosure (formerly CRB).
I use creative and active techniques such as a painting, drawing, role play, relaxation and visualisation to help young people explore their thoughts and feelings. In this way they can come to understand their situation and we can work together to develop practical strategies so that they can deal more confidently with everyday life.
The issues that I have worked on with young people include:
- Family problems
- Low confidence/self-esteem
- Problems with friends or relationships
- Worries, anxieties and fears
- Feeling low
- School worries
- Stress/feeling you can’t cope
- Mood swings
